Former Chairman Files Petition Against Current Trustees of Osun State University Alumni Association

Osogbo, Nigeria – July 4, 2024 – The Osun State University Alumni Association is currently embroiled in a legal dispute following a petition filed by the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Mr. David Oluwayanmi Oladeji. The petition, addressed to the Nigerian Police Force, accuses the current Chairman, Engr. Aderanti K. Adebisi, and the Secretary, Dr. Oluwafuminiyi Raheem, of forgery and misrepresentations.

According to the petition sighted by our correspondence, Mr. Oladeji alleges that during his tenure as Chairman of the BoT from 2016 to 2021, he did not prepare, write, or sign any financial reports for the association. He claims that the National Executive Council failed to present an audit report despite multiple demands for documents including financial statements that would have aided this process. However, on the eve of the association’s Annual General Meeting and Election, in April 2024, various financial reports purportedly prepared by the suspects were circulated, falsely implicating him and tarnishing his reputation.

The allegations state that these documents, listing Mr. Oladeji and six others as trustees, were aimed at misleading the association members. Moreover, it is claimed that the suspects signed these documents without including their names, creating the false impression that Mr. Oladeji and others had prepared them.

Mr. Oladeji also contends that the release of these documents to the public domain has caused him significant reputational damage, as members have questioned the authenticity of the documents and his integrity.

In response to the petition, the National Executive Council of the Alumni Association has expressed serious concern over the potential impact of these allegations on the association’s stability. In a statement, the Public Relations Officer, Faleyimu Oluwasegun (Mighty), reported that members were present at Zone 11 with the concerned trustees and legal representatives to understand the situation better.

The association has urged all members to remain calm as they deliberate on the appropriate steps to address the issue and await the outcome of the police investigation.

The current dispute has its roots in a previous incident at the last convention in April, where Mr. Oladeji reportedly attempted to have the current BoT Chairman arrested. The intervention of the Chief Security Officer of Osun State University prevented the arrest, but tensions have remained high since.
